the scout troop consists of boys aged between 10 and 14/15.
The troop meet on a wednesday after beavers between 7.15 pm and 9.15pm.Normally the hut is the place to go when everywhere else is closed or its just too wild to go out so don't go for a suprise visit or the suprise may be on you.

Anyone can be a scout provided they learn the law and promise,an oath all scouts take and are prepared to go on activities. After all there is no point in being a scout unless you are willing to turn off the morons magnet occasionally and set out into the outdoors,go hiking swimming camping and countless other things.

Scouts are divided into patrols named after Animals or birds and supervised by a patrol leader. When we are in the hut we have invented some epic games such as Colditz and Teddy in the dark(no we don't have anyone in the troop called teddy and in fact teddy disappeared years ago so now we use an imitation-but at least no animals are hurt in the game).
We have come to the end of another busy year. The Scouts were in Tipperary and when we came back we had visitors. Our excellent fellow scouts from France(with one or two from Switzerland)arrived for a fortnights r&r in Penderyn after a busy time at the world Jamboree. They were great company and we were truly sorry to see them go. they had a slightly different approach to the more modern uk scouting, skip was so taken by their approach he became nostalgic and so much so that the green berets did not come out on remembrance sunday while he saves up for felt hats. They had a song for every occasion and were great company.Their departure from our headquarters was a partly sad and partly joyous occasion ,we were sad to see our friend go but what a party!they even got Skip doing the Hirwaun Goat Dance. What a night. We all hope we'll see them all again during our Scouting careers -in particular next summer between the 1st and 10th August would be nice.
Since then we have received the film of the event.A top class DVD they prepared to an embarassingly high standard.Skip was happy that he was described as the Chief Scout a promotion richly deserved. However the beavers assumed that when they identified skip on a 1907-1917 poster of Scouting when they mistook someone also described as Chief Scout for Skip
Dan's Dad came up with the excellent idea of a mountain bike day at Brechfa (where the beast of Brechfa lives at the moment but will undoubtedly move when it discovers hirwaun scouts are going there)and we are supposed to go down the gower for autumn camp.
The best news of the year was undoubtedly that Jarod is now fully recovered and back in Scouts.Unfortunately his first day back was the night hike but it was alright: he said "I think I can probably walk that"until Skip reminded him that last time he said that we were stuck on a mountain for four and a half hours and had to get a helicopter to get him off.In the end, it was a fair point and he went to the camp fire by car.

The Patrol Leaders Council Have now devised our proposed list of activities for 2008.Any dad that wants to come along is more that welcome and essential for the father and son camp.Just let me know.
All the activiites are subject to getting enough adult help and enough interest and we will let you know more details nearer the dates.
